ABOUT US
A SOCIETY DATING BACK TO 1932
The Cambridge University Scandinavian Society (ScanSoc) was originally formed in 1932 to further the knowledge of Scandinavian culture in the UK, and to “promote intercourse between British and Scandinavian students”, as written in our constitution. Throughout the history of our society, it has been a priority to continue the long-standing tradition of events that have been held since its beginning. These events include the Sittning, which is a party dinner rooted in Swedish and Finnish traditions, and the Ambassadors’ Dinner, which hosts Nordic ambassadors to the UK.
WHAT WE DO TODAY
To this day, ScanSoc continues to promote and celebrate the Nordic region in Cambridge while also offering a fun and relaxing atmosphere at all of our events. We arrange a wide array of cultural and social events throughout the year, such as brunches, formals, swaps with other Cambridge societies, speaker events, networking opportunities, cultural celebrations and more.
Our ever-growing community consists of Swedes, Danes, Finns, Icelanders, Norwegians, and is also warmly welcoming non-Nordic students, the so-called ScanFans. Becoming a member of ScanSoc will grant you access to a network of amazing people and provide you with your home away from home!
